Established in 1908 contains over 700 thousand acres of land. There are 5 nationally designated wilderness areas within the forest: Cucamonga Wilderness, Magic Mountain Wilderness, Pleasant View Ridge Wilderness, San Gabriel Wilderness and Sheep Mountain Wilderness.
Interesting fact: The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the forest.
