I’ve needed to be challenged for a while and well I decided to join and do the 2016 Six-Pack Peak Challenge. I first came upon this challenge when I was looking into the possibility of doing the John Muir Trail or the High Sierra Trail before I got a full time job. Unfortunately I have yet to get to those trails.
The SoCalHiker Six-Pack of Peaks was developed by a hiker by the name of Jeff Hester. He was preparing to thru-hike the John Muir Trail. In preparation he developed a plan to climb a series of hikes, which he named Six-Pack of Peaks.
The SoCalHiker Six Pack of Peaks include the following: Mt. Wilson, Cucamonga Peak, Mt. San Antonio (Mt. Baldy), San Bernardino Peak, Mt. San Jacinto, and San Gorgonio.
27,108 feet of elevation gain, 82 miles, Challenge Accepted.
I’ve wanted to hike these peaks for a long time. Unfortunately so far I have only hiked Mt. San Antonio (Mt. Baldy) for a training hike for Whitney last year.
There are three levels of registration if you want to join in this year’s challenge. Register here if you are interested. One of the reasons I registered for it is because this year they are going to be raising money for Big City Mountaineers. 50% of the proceeds that SoCalHiker receives will be going to this non-profit organization that “instills critical life skills in under-resourced urban youth through transformative wilderness mentoring expeditions.” The experience in nature, the serenity, the tranquility will help give a different perspective on life, everyone needs to experience it.
What it entails: You have from January 1 to October 31st to complete each and every one of the Peaks. I will be posting on here updates of each of my hikes and when I will be hiking each peak this year.
If you are interested in joining me on any of the hikes email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or reply to this post.
